Local schools prepare for holidays with concerts

OSCEOLA COUNTY — Students may have already started counting down the days until Christmas break begins.  Before pupils leave for the holidays, many will help bring the Christmas spirit to the area with a variety of band and concert performances. Upcoming performances include:

Sunday, Dec. 10

• The annual Symphonic Santa Sunday concert will begin at 4 p.m. at Ferris State University’s Williams Auditorium, located at 901 S. State St. in Big Rapids. The free concert will feature the FSU Symphony Band, FSU West Central Concert Band and FSU West Central Chamber Orchestra, and will be under the direction of conductors Scott Cohen and Dale Skornia. Attendees will hear a variety of holiday music, as well be able to visit with Santa Claus and Dynamite the Clown. Treats will be available for children attending. Attendees may bring toys or funds to be donated to the Salvation Army for needy local families.

• First- through fourth-grade students at Trinity Lutheran School will put on their CHRISTmas Program from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, at the church and school building, located at 19778 US 10, in Reed City.

Monday, Dec. 11

• The Reed City Middle School will spread holiday cheer on Monday with a concert that will begin at 7 p.m. at the school, located at 233 W. Church Ave., in Reed City.

 

Monday, Dec. 18

• A week from its middle school counterpart, the Reed City High School band concert also will take place at 7 p.m. Attendees will find the concert at the school, located at 225 W. Church Ave., in Reed City.

Tuesday, Dec. 19

• Evart Elementary School fourth-graders will sing for crowds during their holiday concert, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the school, located at 515 N. Cedar St. in Evart.

Thursday, Dec. 21

• Also in Evart, the high school choir concert will round out the last few days of school before Christmas break. The concert is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the middle school auditorium, located at 321 N. Hemlock St., in Evart.
