Pine River girls beat Beal CIty

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pine River 58, Beal City 20

BEAL CITY — The Bucks led the Aggies 28-7 on their way to a 38-point win on Wednesday.

KayLee Goodman led all scorers with 24 points and six rebounds and Logan Powell had 12 points, five assists, and five steals. Selma Barnett had 12 points and six steals and Bekah Dean had six rebounds.

McBain 49, Evart 34

MCBAIN — McBain held a 25-23 lead at halftime and went on to win by 15 points.

Cyana Dellar led the Wildcats with eight points, nine rebounds, and two steals, McKenzie Kimball had seven points and three steals, and Kelci Elder had six points and six rebounds.

“I thought that this was our best game of the season overall,” Evart coach Paul Higgins said. “The score doesn’t indicate how close this game really was. It was a seven-point game heading into the fourth.

McBain NMC 72, Evart 26

EVART — Evart fell to 6-9 overall and 1-8 in the Highland Conference with this loss on Friday. Kaylee Ladd had 10 points for Evart.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Beal City 55, Pine River 36

LEROY — Pine River (2-9, 1-6) lost at home to Beal City (8-5, 5-3) on Thursday.

Trent Holmes had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

“We didn’t get a whole lot of offensive looks,” Pine River coach Brian Goodenow said. “We had a ton of turnovers and Beal City scored 18 points off those turnovers. That was the story of that one.”

 

WRESTLING

Fremont 66, Reed City 13

FREMONT — The Reed City wrestling team fell in CSAA action on Wednesday.

Winners for the Coyotes were Brett Walker (189), Ryan Simmons (112), Anakin Andrus (103).

 

Reed City 1-1

LEROY — The Reed CIty wrestling team fell to Pine River 66-17 and defeated Big Rapids 57-6 on Thursday.

Austin Fowler (285), Anakin Andrus (103), and Ryan Simmons were double winners for the Coyotes while Kaelen McBride earned two wins for Big Rapids.

Single winners for Reed City included Taylor Eveland (119), Ethan Brown (125), Kellen Haney (145), Lee Perreault (152), Grant /Barnes (171), Cassie Enos (189) and Brett Walker (215).

 

Reed City wrestlers place

REMUS — Reed City competed on Saturday at Chippewa Hills in the Central State Activities Association meet.

For Reed City, freshman Anakin Andrus (103) improved his team leading record to 38-5 while junior Ryan Simmons improved his record to 36-5. Both of these wrestlers took second earned first-team all-conference honors and senior Brett Walker earned honorable mention acclaim.

Andrus lost in the finals. Simmons lost 13-0 to Curtis Perry of Lakeview in the finals. Walker beat Kyler Kolk of Fremont in the consolation finals to take third place.

“I thought our wrestlers wrestled very well, it seems the team is peaking at the right time,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said.

It was not a team meet. Wrestlers competed for individual honors.

Reed City wrestles at Chippewa Hills on Wednesday in team district action.

 

Pine River wins title

MANTON — Pine River took first in the Mid-Michigan Wrestling Conference tournament on Saturday. The Bucks had  224 1/2 points and Manton had 155. Lake City was third with 115.

Kanouse took third place at 103. Taking firsts were Dylan Stevens (119), Henry Keathley (125), Tyler Signor (130), Jacob Roberts (135), Thomas Hooker (140). Andrew Park (145), Brock Nelson (152), Malachi Holmes (160), Tim Rizor (189) and Bryan McCurry(215). Creed Lawson (171) also took third.

Division 4 team districts are on Thursday at Manton. The Bucks wrestle Manton at 6 p.m. in a semifinal match. Evart faces Forest Area in the other semifinal.

Evart had three wrestlers make all-conference. Darren Gostlin and LJ Clark were  econd and Reese Ranson was third. All three are freshmen.

Individual districts are at Oscoda on Saturday.

 

COMPETITIVE CHEER

EVART — Evart hosted its annual invitational on Saturday. Out of eight teams, Evart was sixth. Farwell, ranked No. 2 in the state. took first.

“It was one or my best third rounds and we did well,” Evart coach Marty Pattee said.
