WRESTLING

State finals

DETROIT — Evart had one qualifier in Division 4 wrestling at the state with Reese Ransom (125). He was 0-2.

“He did very well,” Evart coach Ryan Hopkins said. “He goes down there and wrestles on the big stage.”

Ransom was the No. 8 seed. He lost on a pin in 3:13 to Ash Stokes of Marcellus and then fell 3-2 in a decision to Logan Zell of New Lothrop to end his season.

Hopkins notes this marked the fourth year of Evart’s wrestling program and the number of wrestlers was in the teens. Its been climbing every year. He’s hoping for even more numbers next year.
