Pine River girls coach reflects on season

LEROY — Pine River’s girls basketball team enjoyed some highlights this year, but wound up at 9-12 after losing their last five games.

They lost to Lakeview in a Class C district that was won by Morley Stanwood, which lost to the Bucks 47-40 earlier in the season.

KayLee Goodman and Logan Powell were among the top Pine River players. Goodman was a four-year varsity player.

Anselma Barnett also had a strong season.

“We’re losing four seniors,” first-year coach Brandon Bowman said. “Kaylee Goodman and Anselma Barnett have been huge for us all year. Selma was huge on the boards. KayLee was big all over, offensively and defensively. We lost Bekah Dean on the boards.”

The Bucks will hope to be a factor again in the Highland Conference.
