Dorn set for big season with Evart

Josh Dorn works on his swing.

EVART — Evart’s baseball team struggle did last season and didn’t meet some lofty preseason expectations.

But players like senior Josh Dorn are trying to do something about it this season.

The Wildcats are scheduled to have a home game on Thursday against Montabella, weather permitting, and also are home on April 18 against Crossroads and April 19 against Harrison. The first Highland Conference action is against Pine River at home on April 24.

Dorn is in his fourth varsity season.

“We were decent last year,” he recalled, while adding it was disappointing not being able to contend again. “It’s a matter of being able to play the way we did.”

The Wildcats, Dorn said, will need to capture the magic of 2016.

Dorn will be among the Wildcats’ top pitchers, and said location will be among his strengths. Fastball has been his best pitch.

At first base, Dorn will look to be a solid defensive player.

To get settled into tip-top baseball form, “it will probably take a couple of weeks,” Dorn said. “We want to contend for a conference championship. We have to cut down on mistakes.
