EVART — Evart’s track teams are gearing up for the two biggest events of the season.

The Wildcats will be running at East Jordan on Saturday for the Division 4 regional with hopes of qualifying for the state finals on June 2.

The Wildcats are at home on May 22 for the Highland Conference meet.

Evart competed at the Manton Ranger Invitational on Friday.

For the Evart boys, Kyle Stokes won the 100 meters (11:37) with a personal record and the 200 meters (23.99).

Austin Hamilton was third in the 1,00 meters (4:42.13), Richard Foster was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (18.5), the foursome of Shane Todd, Stokes, Brian Barnett and Kris Barnett was second (1:45.26). Zolan Long was second in the pole vault (10-6),

For the girls, Mckenzie VanBuren won the 100 meters with a personal record (13.64), the foursome of Macey Wallace, Mckenzie VanBuren, Kaylee Ladd and Angela Gibbins was second in the 4×100 relay (54.59).

Kelci Elder was fourth in the shot put (31-5) and fifth in the discus (84-7).

Girls coach Tim Scott indicated he’s been happy with his team’s progress.

“We’re at .500,” Scott said. “In all of our invitationals, we’re usually in the top third. We hope to send at least seven girls to the state finals when the regionals come up.

“Everyone is a little rusty. We’re not as tuned up as we normally would be. We missed five to six meets (because of weather) earlier in the year.”
