Evart’s baseball season ends

Justin O’Dell

EVART — Evart’s baseball season ended with a 3-2 loss to Farwell in pre-district action on Tuesday, May 28.

But it was still a strong season for the Wildcats, who finished in second place in the Highland Conference, and will return plenty of young talent.

This includes sophomore pitcher Justin O’Dell, who gained valuable experience throughout the season. He saw some varsity action last season.

Throughout the season, O’Dell was able to provide the Wildcats with some solid pitching.

“I was hitting the spots,” O’Dell said. “I was locating my fastball. I need to locate my change-up and hit my spots.”

He had a strong performance against non-league teams including Montabella.

But as he looks ahead, O’Dell wanted to improve on all aspects of his game.

“You can never stop getting better,” he said.

If he’s not pitching, O’Dell played third and second base, plus outfield.

“I have a strong arm and my ability to get to the ball OK,” O’Dell said.

He had confidence in his hitting this season.

“You just want to put the ball in play and see what you do it with it,” O’Dell said, “and make sure you hustle.”

O’Dell and the Wildcats had strong games against Big Rapids, Reed City and Chippewa Hills in non-league play.
