STANDISH – Reed City’s softball season came to a close on Saturday with a 5-2 regional semifinal loss to Sanford Meridian Early College at Standish-Sterling.

Storch’s hit was her 11th home run of the season.

Sanford Meridian had one unearned run. The score stayed that way until the first when the Mustangs scored two runs for a 3-1 lead. Storch’s homer made it 3-2. In the bottom of the sixth, the Mustangs scored two more.

“The game could have gone either way,” Reed City coach Roger Steig said. “We gave it our best shot. Meridian has a fine ballclub and wound up winning the regional. It’s been a fine year for us.”

Rushford had huge pitching performances late in the season.

“Sidni also had six hits in the district tournament and Jordyn has hit the long ball for us all year,” Steig said. “We’ll miss them next year.”

The other seniors are Alyssa Olds, Kierra Barker and Willard.

Reed City’s season ends at 24-12.

Steig said Reed City will have a summer league on Wednesday nights starting on June 20.

Reed City will play all of its games at home. Other teams in the league will be Mesick, McBain, Tri County and Cadillac.
