Reed City softball

REED CITY — Reed City coach Roger Steig and graduated senior Jordyn Storch have been selected to play in the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association Division All-Star game at Central Michigan University on Wednesday morning, July 18.

It will be West vs. East.

Steig coached the Coyotes to their second straight softball district title in the spring. Storch was an all-stater and nominee for Miss Softball.

“It’s chosen by fellow coaches and Jordyn, same thing,” Steig said.

His daughter, Amanda Steig, played in the game in a previous year.

Roger Steig is one of the West all-star coaches.

Evart baseball players

EVART — Several Evart baseball players are performing for a high school-aged summer team.

Evart Middle School principal Jason O’Dell said Ken Kreiner is coaching the team. Kreiner’s father is retired Central Michigan baseball head coach Dean Kreiner

“Coach (Ken) Kreiner played at CMU during his father’s tenure and was a left-handed pitcher,” O’Dell said. “Coach Kreiner gives private lessons to many, many athletes. He has put together a tournament team in which to compete in four events this summer. Athletes from Shepherd, Alma, Mount Pleasant and Evart are on the squad. The Evart players include Justin O’Dell, Danny Witbeck, Ty and Nate Sochocki.

“Their next tournament is in Central Montcalm the weekend of July 14-15. The schedule for games has not been put out yet.”
