Morgan focusing on summer pitching

Maddie Morgan

REED CITY – Maddie Morgan realizes how crucial summer softball can be, especially for Morgan and her teammates this year.

Morgan is coming off her sophomore season when she was one of three pitchers along with seniors Sidni Rushford and Jordyn Storch. She also did some catching.

Next spring, Morgan is the only returning pitcher and is likely to take the No. 1 spot.

“It went really good,” she said of her sophomore season, when the Coyotes won 24 games and had a second straight district title. “We were pretty good. Toward the end of the year, my swing came around and I was having bigger hits. My catching in districts, I didn’t have a passed ball.”

The Coyotes’ summer team, the Reed City Rage, is playing every Wednesday this month at home against area opponents. The Rage have started off 3-1 with a sweep over Mesick and a split with Tri County.

Morgan acknowledged her main focus this summer is on her pitching and getting faster.

“I want to step up as a leader,” she said. “Last year, I caught when I wasn’t pitching. But this year, I don’t know.”
