Andrus making progress for Coyotes

Anakin Andrus

REED CITY — Anakin Andrus made a lot of progress for Reed City in his freshman wrestling season but has been working during summer sessions to get ready for his sophomore campaign.

He wrestled at 103 pounds last season. Looking at this season, he’s hoping to get to 112.

“I haven’t been really doing too much,” Andrus said, adding at summer wrestling workouts, “I focus on getting my teammates better.”

Summer workouts will have positive benefits, Andrus added.

“Last season, I bonded well with my teammates,” he said. “I care about my wins and losses and I never give up.”

Wrestling is Andrus’ only sport right now. He came on early in his freshman season and emerged as one of coach Roger Steig’s best young wrestlers.

The Coyotes have had session on Sundays in the high school wrestling room throughout the season, supervised by head coach Roger Steig and assistant coach Ryan Steig.
