Reed City volleyball team advances to semifinals of Big Rapids tournament

BIG RAPIDS — Reed City’s volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the Big Rapids Cardinal Invitational on Saturday before losing to Tri County.

The Coyotes were 2-4 in pool play. They lost 25-14, 25-20 and won 25-18 against Newaygo. They lost 25-20 25-21 and won 5-19 against Alma.

There were only three teams in the Coyotes’ pool.

Reed City beat Ludington 25-12, 25-23 and advanced to the semifinals against Tri County and lost 25-19, 25-19.

“I thought we continued to improve,” Reed City coach Don Patterson said. “I thought we’ve been improving all year. Our passing was better. We had more offense than we’ve had. We are getting a little better. We’re still young.”

For the day, Alison Duddles had 28 kills, one ace, 13 digs and eight blocks; Demi Lodholz had 21 kills, five aces, 13 digs and three blocks; Mackenzie Wein had 11 kills, five aces and 28 digs; Katelynn Holmes had three kills, two aces, five digs and four blocks; Maddie Morgan had one kill, two aces and 19 digs; Claudia Francke had six kills, five aces, 11 digs, 86 assists and one block; Kamryn Myers had three kills, one ace and 16 digs; Mady Brown had eight kills, one ace and 25 digs and Jenna Johnson had four kills, five digs and one block.
