RC volleyballers fall to TC

REED CITY — The Coyotes of Reed City met their match on the volleyball court at the hands of the Tri County Vikings on Tuesday night.

The Coyotes fell to the Vikings 3-0 (19-25, 10-25, 20-25).

“It’s a good match,” head coach Don Patterson said. “Especially the first two games. I thought our kids really played hard. They could’ve gotten discouraged, but they didn’t. I thought our kids played well and there were areas we really improved in tonight.”

Katelynn Holmes and Alison Duddles led the team with four kills apiece and Kamryn Myers and Madalynn Brown tallied 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Claudia Francke added nine digs and 13 assists and Jenna Johnson had one kill, one dig, three aces, and one block, while Mackenzie Wein and Madelynn Morgan added eight and six digs, respectively.

“Madalynn Brown passed really well tonight,” Patterson said. “Alison served really well tonight. Tri County has some really good hitters. We tried to get in better position to block them. Alison and Katelynn got some good touches and did a nice job at the net.”

Following a disappointing second set, the Coyotes responded with a spirited third set and had a chances to take it. But Tri County proved to be too much.

“We definitely did a lot better than the last time we played them,” Johnson said. “We got a lot stronger and were better at blocking at hitting. Our setting was really good and we’re playing a lot smarter. But we still could’ve had some improvements.”

Reed City (6-12) faced Chippewa Hills on  Tuesday in conference play.

“The toughest part of our schedule is over now,” Patterson said. “We keep improving; It’s encouraging to us.”
