LEROY — It was a rain-soaked field for both Pine River and Pentwater soccer teams on Monday.

But Pentwater prevailed with a 5-3 boys soccer win in the regular-season home finale for the Bucks.

The visitors got out to a 2-0 lead before Ethan Underhill scored one of two goals for the Bucks (1-10). It was 3-1 at halftime.

Pentwater scored the first two goals of the second half.

But Hunter Poe and Underhill converted for Pine River, narrowing it to a two-goal game with under 10 minutes to play. But the Bucks ran out of time.

“We get it to the center and I aim for the bottom corner of the net, so the goalie couldn’t get it,” Underhill said of his two goals. “We played pretty well. We did pretty well in the second half.”

The Bucks have only won one game but have been more competitive all season.

“We played better tonight,” Pine River coach Jenny Hoaglund said. “Obviously there’s still room for improvement. Our field is always a challenge. Definitely last night’s rain did not help us. It’s usually pretty soggy but with not as many puddles on it.”

Dalton Sible was Pine River’s goalie.

Pine River plays at Burt Lake on Thursday in the regular-season finale.
