Evart boys second at Chippewa Hills

REMUS — Evart’s boys were second in the Blue Division and Reed City fourth in the Red Division at Saturday’s Chippewa Hills Late Season Warrior Invitational on Saturday.

West Michigan Christian had 36 points among the Blue Division teams while Evart had 57.

For Evart, Nathan Woods was second (17:16.81), Austin Hamilton third (17:20.24), Richard Foster 16th (l9:12.73), Tanner Ryan 17th (19:22.68). and Jared Beard 26th (20:57.55).

“It went pretty well today,” Foster said. “The third mile went quick. The rain affects runners a little bit.”

“It was very cold,” Woods said. “The rain made it kind of miserable. The rain is an opportunity to run harder. Things are going pretty well so far. We’re looking forward to the regional. I’m hoping to get under 16:40 at the regional. Early in the season, I ran a 16:47 there (at Benzie Central).”

For Reed City, Brandon Wirth was fourth (16:45.11), Calvin Rohde 10th (17:20.83), Noah Blythe 19th (18:24.36), Jared Karns 40th (19:36.25), and Ryan Simmons 56th (20:29.06).

“It was good,” Rohde said. “Next week, at regional. I want to qualify for the state finals.”

Runners faced cold and rainy temperatures during the race.

Reed City girls were fourth out of six teams in the Red Division. Evart was eighth in the Blue Division.

For Reed City, Abbigail Kiaunis was fourth (20:16.12), Taylor Harrison 16th (21:33.99), Leigha Johnson 31st (22:31.93). Paige Lofquist 38th (22:50.38) and Brooke Miller 44th (23:23.01).

For Evart, Sophia Scott was 15th (23:11.34), Laina Payne 22nd (23:53.80), Rilee Clark 41st (28:01.21), Hannah Wetters 49th (31:01.58), and Grace Green 57th (40:12.97).

Both schools were be at the regional meet on Saturday at Benzie Central.
