Rolling Thunder spokesman thanks many for success at ‘Thunder at the River’

To the editor,

This year marked our 2nd annual “Thunder at the River” event. Summer started this year on our first day and was beautiful for the entire weekend! We believe someone was looking out for us; it rained every day prior for an entire week. This was fitting for our event was a huge success.

To make an event a success you must have support, our biggest supporter was “The Little River Casino.” Words cannot express enough gratitude for your participation and support in helping us start and continue this event. Thunder at the River was a major undertaking that involved the efforts of many people within your organization, Mr. Tom Davis , Ms. Eileen Duffin, Ms. Judy Ball, and Mr. Michael Burmeister. WE THANK YOU!

Saturday we held our Pure Thunder- Escorted Veterans Memorial Ride. We had over 220 riders participate this year. We had riders from all over our state and as far away as Minnesota. We had a safe ride due to all the efforts of the Little River Tribal Police, Michigan State Police, Manistee County Sherriff Department and West Shore EMS. Upon our return we had many vendors and informational booths to visit, and enjoy some music form “OLD Dudes Rock” band not to mention some very good vittles to eat.

Later in the evening we held our “Secure the Perimeter” concert starring Kelly Trudell, what a show!

We would like to thank Medal of Honor recipient Mr. Duane Dewey and Battle of the Bulge hero Richard Rizzio for participating as our honored guests. A special thank you to SGT Tim Arnold and Bravo Troop 1st SQDN-126th Cavalry “Black Knights” for playing a major part of this performance.

Sunday was another beautiful sunny day to start out our morning worship service! We had over 60-plus riders participate on our poker run. They were all excited to return to help eat some of our old fashion pig roast and listen to some more live music.

We cannot express enough gratitude for everyone’s participation this year. Whatever part you were involved with, planning, donating as one of our sponsors, working or participating as an honored guest, a Veteran of the U.S. Military, we THANK YOU!

Our community has done a great job coming together and supporting our chapter of Rolling Thunder. How fortunate we are to have people care about the future of our Veterans! Our lord has blessed us by giving us such caring people to help make a difference in our world.

John J. Stocki,
