Those who support wind energy are not uneducated

To the editor,

Despite what a representative of the Citizens for Responsible Wind said in her letter to this paper last week on Oct. 27 and despite what the president of the Citizens for Responsible Wind said yesterday at the Benzie Board of Commissioners meeting, those of us who support wind energy are not uneducated.

We are not uneducated about the subject of wind energy and we are not, in general, uneducated overall. They’ve said we are. There are many reasons people support wind energy, and there are still many more who have done lots of reading, research and investigation about the subject.

How offensive is it to your sensibilities, to be called, in a round-about way, ignorant? That’s exactly what they’ve done even though they haven’t used that harsh word directly. Maybe what the founders of the Citizens for Responsible Wind should have said instead is they think our reasons for supporting wind energy are uneducated, but they didn’t. They’ve thrown a direct punch at our overall intelligence.

Have they formed their opinion of our so-called “uneducated” selves because those of us who’ve investigated their reasons against wind energy have decided we’re not going to believe the fiction they’re trying to pass off as fact? Is it because we’re not going to take their researched opinion, buy into it 120 percent and then call it a fact? Is it because their scare tactics to convince us clean renewable industrial wind energy is bad for our area, isn’t working?

It’s a sure-fire guarantee that these special interest anti-wind groups have hidden agendas behind their march against wind energy for Benzie and Manistee counties. It makes me angry, and I hope it will make other wind energy supporters angry too, to be considered uneducated, immature and unsophisticated because we do not fall in line with their way of thinking.

If you support wind energy, show it.

P.S. Thank you, Manistee County Board of Commissioners.
