Senior center news

By Carol Greve, Manistee County Senior Center

Well, I guess winter has arrived! As I’m typing this the snow is really coming down and the wind is really blowing. I guess we can’t complain, it’s pretty much been green and mild up to this point. Don’t want to have a cold summer because our winter was so mild.

BAD WEATHER POLICY

Remember if the weather is bad and Manistee Public Schools are closed, so is the senior center and all meal sites and home delivered meals will also not go out. This only pertains to the Manistee Public School system, not any of the out county schools. If it falls on a day when there are cards, foot clinic, lawyer services, or any other program going on they will  also all be canceled.

SENIOR CENTER WATER AEROBICS CLASSES

The new fall session of water aerobics has started for the 2011-2012 year. The classes are instructed by Kathy Fenstermacher and Vicki Sheffield at the Manistee High School Pool Paine Aquatic Center.  Classes start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. There is a cost. You can come as often as you like once a week or twice a week, but the benefits of going to the classes  is so great you will want to do it. These classes are for senior adults, male or female. Go check it out if you have never done this before and see the fun they have. These classes are held in the big pool at the shallow end. Kathy or Vicki would love to have you!

NEED HELP WITH SHOVELING OF WALK WAYS?

Are you over 60 years of age and need assistance with chores or cleaning around your home? Help is available (for a cost) for jobs such as regular cleaning, washing windows, cleaning out a refrigerator or freezer, cleaning a garage/basement/attic and recycling. Call Chris at the Senior Center 723-6477 to set up an appointment. Those of you who need some inside work done if the weather goes back to no snow our guys maybe able to fit you in for wall washing or cleaning of cupboards, basements or something inside your home. Call today and schedule a work time to get it done soon. If you need someone to clean your walkways or porches of snow our guys can do the job. They do not do big or long driveways because they do not have a plow, just a small snow blower. So call and ask for Tom and he can let you know if they can do it once he sees how big the area is.

UP-COMING TRIPS FOR 2012

My first trip of the year will be April 12 -13 up to Kewadin Casino. This will be an early spring trip for over-night. This will be a great spring trip to get away after the winter weather and cold, long dark days. You must be signed up for this trip by March 9 with final payment due by March 16. I know the price is a little higher then last springs, but with the cost of gas going up and the tolls to cross the bridge, I had no choice then to raise it some. I’m keeping is as low as possible at this time. Please call soon and sign up for this trip because seats will go fast once people start calling in and I have to have my total number of people and rooms in one month in advance of the trip. Call 723-6477 today!

I will be bringing more trips to you as I get them set up very soon, this will be an exciting year!
