Boating safely classes to be offered

The Manistee Municipal Marina will host an eight-hour boating safely class on the River Street level of the new marina building located at 480 River St., Manistee, on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The class will be presented by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and topics will include an introduction to boating, boating law, boat safety equipment, safe boating, navigation, boating problems, trailering/storing and protecting your boat, hunting/fishing/water skiing, and river boating.

Those who complete the class will receive Michigan safety certification, which allows the operation of a boat by persons age 14 and older. This certification may also make boaters eligible to receive discounts in the cost of their boating insurance.

The fee for the class is $25, which includes the cost of the manual “About Boating Safely.” Family members sharing the manual may also attend the class for an additional fee of $5 each. Attendees must be 14 years of age or older. For more information and to register and pick up the course materials, contact Don Olszewski at (231) 398-9154 or Bill Baumgartner (231) 398-0875.
