PREP SOFTBALL: Bear Lake rolls to sweep of Walkerville

WALKERVILLE — The Bear Lake softball team cruised to a West Michigan D League sweep against Walkerville on Monday.

The Lakers (4-2, 2-0 WMD) won both games by mercy rule in three innings, taking the opener 30-0 and the nightcap 17-2.

“They’re a young team and they’re trying to build their program,” Bear Lake coach Garret Waller said of the Wildcats. “At least we got a game in. We saw some pitches, worked on some base running and we were hitting.”

Emileigh Ferguson got the win in the opener after allowing just one hit while striking out eight. She also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run that Waller said traveled about 300 feet before hitting the scoreboard.

“It was a bomb,” he said.

Jaimey Ferguson had two hits and drove in five while Nicole Girven went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Katie Millard got the win in the second game by allowing just one hit while striking out four.

Emileigh Ferguson had a hit and four RBIs while Madeleine Smeltzer and McKenna Fink each went 1-for-1 with an RBI.
