ONEKAMA — The Arts and Culture Alliance of Manistee County is partnering with the Douglas Valley Organic Winery to present the annual Green Art Fair and Competition today at Douglas Valley, located near Onekama on Schoedel Road approximately one mile north of M-22.

The event, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., will promote green art by encouraging the creative uses of salvaged materials to make furniture, wall art, carvings, sculptures, toys, musical instruments, clothing, jewelry and other decorative products.

Entries will be judged by a panel of experts and people attending the event will be able to vote to award a “People’s Choice” award. Also, some of the entries will be available for purchase through silent auction and some of the artists entering the competition will also have booths to sell their green art products.

In addition to viewing, voting, and bidding on the art, people can enjoy music by local musicians, and wine tasting inside the winery.

All profits from this fair will support art scholarships for K-12 students in Manistee County. Scholarships may be used for musical instrument rental, private lessons, music or drama camps, art supplies or other expenses associated with art, music and drama classes.

In 2011 three students from Kaleva Norman Dickson School received tuition support to the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. This year’s scholarships will go to Manistee Area Public School students.

Admission to the Green Art Fair and Competition is free.
