Groundbreaking ceremony Sunday for Fischer Tanks’ new Kaleva facility

KALEVA — A groundbreaking ceremony for the new site of Fischer Tanks will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the company’s new location on Rengo Road in the northwest part of the Kaleva Industrial Park.

According to Doug Fischer, operations manager, limited production will begin at the new site by the end of the year and by the end of January the company will be totally moved out of its current location in Wellston.

Fischer said he is looking forward to the move because sales have increased by 30 percent this year and the number of employees has grown from 30 to 48.

“We’ll probably go up another 18 or 20 employees next year, too,” he said.

The property was purchased from the Village of Kaleva and is part of the tax-free renaissance zone established about ten years ago. Tax benefits for companies moving into the area are available for the next two years.

“The village has been very accommodating,” Fischer said.

Fischer Tanks has been refurbishing propane tanks in Wellston since 2005, starting as a side operation to Fischer LP Gas.

In 2010 the Norman Township Zoning Board of Appeals ruled that the township’s zoning administrator had issued two permits to the company in error and since that time the company has been trying to operate in Wellston under a temporary special use permit.

Zoning is not expected to be a problem at the new location because it is classified as industrial.
