Grow Benzie offers “ Food preservation without refrigeration” with Craig Schaaf

BENZONIA — Tuesday, Nov. 13, Grow Benzie and NCRS are presenting Craig Schaaf, a highly regarded agricultural specialist who will present a class on “ Food Preservation without refrigeration”. Many techniques utilized in the past are still very viable today – alternative, cost effective ways of preserving food.

Craig will discuss alternative means of preserving food, from storing food in a root cellar, techniques for storing in the ground, and using fermentation. Craig owns the The Golden Rule Farm in Kaleva, where he utilizes all of the methods that will be discussed. His experiences and tips will provide both an enjoyable and educational evening. This is the third of four classes Craig will be offering this fall. Part of popularity of Craig’s classes comes from his give and take with the audience and the opportunity to ask questions.

All classes in this fall series are scheduled at 7 p.m. with a potluck beginning at 6 p.m. This format has been popular to allow people a chance to have dinner with Craig and be ready for the evening class. Please bring a dish to pass, drink and table service. Donations are requested of $7 per single or $10 per family.
