Kirtland’s warbler calendar features children’s artwork

MIO — The USDA Forest Service 2012-2013 Kirtland’s Warbler Young Artists Calendar is now available.

The Forest Service created the calendar with artwork submitted by 275 schoolchildren in kindergarten through 8th grade from 14 northern Michigan schools and home school groups.

The calendar showcases northern Michigan’s unique jack pine forest ecosystem, depicting a variety of wildlife including deer, bear, butterflies, snakes and the federally-endangered Kirtland’s warbler.

Calendar are available for a suggested $12 donation at the website www.enfiamich.org.

Artistic entries for next year’s calendar are now being accepted. Information about the contest requirements and entry forms are available at www.fs.usda.gov/hmnf.
