Manistee-Benzie Snowbirds hold snowmobile safety classes

KALEVA — A snowmobile safety class was held in December at the Benzie-Manistee Snowbirds clubhouse in Kaleva.

The class was attended by 23 children from three counties. Instructors Mark Coe and Jeff Petrosky taught the kids about snowmobile operation, care, and safety.

Guest speakers from the Manistee Sheriff snowmobile patrol, Steve Block, and Maple Grove Township Fire and Rescue, Carlina Breitner attended. They help with rules and regulation and first aid and safety. The snowbirds club donated $100 to each organization, Mark Coe presenting checks.

The Snowbirds club meets the first Wednesday of each month at 14121 Industrial Dr. in Kaleva at 7 p.m. meetings are open to the public, more information is available at and on facebook.

The Snowbirds will be hosting a congressional ride through Manistee and Benzie counties on Jan.11 with United States Congressmen Dan Beneshik and Bill Huizenga, and are planning some local buisness stops.
