Safe Harbor looking for volunteers

MANISTEE — The Safe Harbor program that offers shelter for homeless people is in dire need of volunteers over the next several weeks, according to Robin Paulus, executive director of Love INC of Manistee.

“Each winter we find a group of committed volunteers who give days or even weeks of their time to help, but they get tired,” Paulus said. “We have a large Christian community and I hope we can count on others to help.”

Safe Harbor offers an evening meal and shelter to anyone who needs it. Lately four or five people take advantage of the program each night. Local churches and the Manistee Intermediate School District rotate weekly as the location. Men and women are needed to provide meals, register the guests, and spend the night in the shelter.

“Please give thanks for your home and consider giving a few hours to help those who wish they had a home,” Paulus said.
