Wellston seniors elect new officers

The Wellston Area Wide Senior Citizens Club held their nominations and election of officers at their meeting Thursday evening. Officers elected for the 1973 year were Mrs. Max Baumgart, Neal Warrenton, Mrs. Lavon Walker, Max Baumgart and Ciscero Perry.

60 YEARS AGO

Much credit to county

The Manistee County March of Dimes Committee today expressed its thanks to the citizens of the rural areas for their part in the success of this year’s polio fund campaign. It was revealed this morning that the county communities raised $1,595 in the Thursday Mothers’ March in addition to other money made from various projects and promotions.

Warning of fire trucks

The city police today again reminded motorists that all fire trucks have the complete right of way on streets when they are on call. Last evening, as one of the local department trucks was answering a resuscitator call on Eighth Street, a car pulled out from a curbing and just scraped the side of the big truck.

80 YEARS AGO

Delay in bandit sentence

It will probably be another week, Prosecutor Max Hamlin reported today, before Wayne Robinson, wounded Kaleva Bank robber, can be taken from Mercy Hospital to be arraigned on a charge of robbery armed. The holdup man is continuing to show improvement in his recovery from the bullet wound which resulted in his capture, but is not yet strong enough to appear before Circuit Court Judge Hal L. Cutler.
