Kudos to Manistee County Medical Care Facility

To the editor:

Hospice of Michigan would like to commend the Manistee County Medical Care Facility and its director, Linda Duchon, for their fast action in response to the fire that devastated the Orchard Hill adult foster care home last week. Two of our Hospice of Michigan patients and more than a dozen others made homeless by the fire were taken in and cared for by Duchon and her staff after they lost their homes in the tragedy.

Despite the logistical obstacles of being immediately responsible for the medical care of 15 new patients, Duchon and her staff made sure the Hospice of Michigan patients and 13 other victims were made to feel at home and comfortable. Not only did our patients receive the medical care they needed, they were also cared for so well emotionally that one of the displaced victims decided to make the MCMCF her new home. In addition, Duchon and her staff were instrumental in ensuring that after taking advantage of the emergency accommodations, all the displaced residents found permanent care facilities.

We at Hospice of Michigan are proud to partner with extraordinary facilities like the MCMCF. We would like to express our appreciation and admiration for Duchon, and for the caregivers who also truly went above and beyond their call of duty.
