MANISTEE COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGING WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

I hope this note finds everyone in great spirits, and like me, hoping spring is just around the corner. As always, we had a fun week at the Senior Center. I need to Thank Joy Smith for helping with our Valentine’s Day Party. She was gracious enough to stop what she was doing and come and play the piano for our party. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful music. Thank you again Ms Smith, you were a breath of fresh air.

This Thursday, February 28th from 2p-4p we will be celebrating Carol Greve’s retirement.

I hope everyone will come and enjoy visiting with Carol. After 15 years at the Senior Center there must be many fun and interesting memories. I am also excited and looking forward to this Friday’s movie “Skyfall”, the new James Bond flick.

Please join me for some popcorn and some fun after lunch on Friday March 1st at the Senior Center.

I said I would let you know about 2013 trip schedule. I am still waiting for confirmation from the travel agency before I can give you the full list.

I can tell you I am planning a 7-8 day trip to Cape Cod that seems very exciting, details to follow. Also, we will be doing a Detroit Tigers game and a Beach Bums game this summer. I have had some requests for Frankenmuth and Greenfield Village, so I think they will be added.

We have several Casino trips in the making. The first one is April 3rd & 4th to Kewadin Casino, in Sault Ste. Marie, our bus is starting to fill up so please call 231-723-6477 if you are interested in going on this trip.

We have a lot of new events that will be starting around the Senior Center. Keep an eye out for some of the changes. I hope you have a great week.

CAROL’S RETIREMENT PARTY

We are having a Retirement Open House for Carol Greve Thursday, February 28th from 2pm-4pm at the Senior Center.

Please stop in to wish Carol a Happy Retirement.

INCOME TAX APPOINTMENTS
WITH AARP

AARP volunteers are helping seniors prepare and file their 2012 income tax returns. Appointments will be held at the Manistee Senior Center every Monday through April 8th.

This is a free service to senior citizens although donations to the Manistee County Council on Aging are accepted and appreciated to help cover costs incurred for this service.

There are two new requests this year: (1) we are asking everyone to stop in and pick up a list of documents which you will need to bring; and (2) we are asking everyone to please bring a picture ID at the time of your appointment.

Please call the Manistee Senior Center (723-6477) to schedule your income tax appointment.
