Manistee area is becoming a cross country skiing destination

To the Editor:

Kudos and a great thank you to the City of Manistee, the groomers, plowers, donor businesses and everyone else involved at the City of Manistee Nonmotorized Park. What I great local resource.

Another beautiful day at the park with plenty of snow, wide groomed trails and clear blue sky. If you haven’t been out yet this winter you owe it to yourself to get out and enjoy the trails while there is still such great snow.

With this set of trails, Big M, Crystal Mountain, Orchard Beach trails, Sleeping Bear Dune trails, Rails to Trails, the VASA, North Country Trail and others, Manistee and the surrounding areas are becoming quite a destination for cross country skiing.

What’s next? Solar lighting for night skiing, a culvert for the ditch, porta pottys or a utility building, a ski trailer for rental skis so the kids can ski?

One bit of skier etiquette: skate left, stride right (diagonal, traditional) unless otherwise groomed.

And as always we thank our snowmobile buddies for respecting our trails.
