North Country Trail association sets hikes for March and April

MANISTEE — The Spirit of the Woods North Country Trail Association invites all interested to join in for their March and April community hikes.

On Saturday, March 9 at 10 a.m. Joan Young will lead a hike on the Manistee Riverwalk from the House of Flavors Restaurant to Lake Michigan and back. The total distance is approximately three miles.

Hikers will leave the House of Flavors, which is located on U.S. 31 just south of the Memorial Bridge, at 10 a.m. Some will be eating lunch there following the hike.

If the Riverwalk is too icy, the alternative location for the hike will be Ludington State Park. Those interested in doing the hike should make a reservation with Young (jhyshark@gmail.com or 231-757-2205) so they can be kept up to date on the location of the hike.

Further information on the hike is available at www.northcountrytrail.org/spw.

The hike on Saturday, April 6 will leave from the North Country Trail Free Soil Road trailhead at 10 a.m. Joan Young will also lead this hike to the Dead Horse Marsh Boardwalk.

Participants are asked to bring a lunch to eat at the boardwalk. The total distance is approximately seven miles — but if there is snow or ice the hike may be shortened.
