Porcello turns in strong start as Tigers beat Astros

LAKELAND, Fla. — Rick Porcello threw four shutout innings to help lead the Detroit Tigers to an 8-5 exhibition win against the Houston Astros on Monday.

Porcello allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out six.

Torii Hunter led the Tigers with two hits, designated hitter Alex Avila had a hit and drove in three runs while catcher Brayan Pena doubled in a run.

Luke Putkonen relieved Porcello and was tagged for four runs on two hits with three walks. Joaquin Benoit, Al Alburquerque and Brayan Villarreal each threw a scoreless inning of relief. Alburquerque and Villarreal both struck out the side.
