County road projects

Ed Walburn, Manistee County road superintendent, reports that there will be about 17 miles of new blacktop work this year along with some 20 miles of new construction. Projects in Arcadia, Onekama and Manistee townships will take precedent before any others.


Easter dinner at Chippewa

Your family will enjoy the delightful special Easter dinner at the Hotel Chippewa. Enjoy Easter ham with all the fixings. Dinner will be served from noon to 2:30 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Beach cleanup is planned

As one feature of Clean-Up, Paint-Up, Fix-Up week here April 20-25, First Street and Fifth Avenue beaches will be given a thorough cleaning, according to plans drafted yesterday by the Board of Commerce committee. The Jaycees will be asked to stage the First Street Beach cleanup, with the Northside Improvement Association handling Fifth Avenue.


Much interest in sugar beets

The sugar beet project in Manistee County shows considerable promise, as nearly 200 acres are signed up to date. Expectations are that nearly 400 acres will be signed. More acreage is being signed up on the better types of soil in Manistee County.

Closed today

All banks, city and county offices and courts were closed today because of the legal holiday, Election Day.
