Library receives grant

If you ever walked into a local public library branch and wondered if a certain book was there, or if that publication was even available, your worries are over thanks to a $62,726 grant. The grant, which was awarded to the Manistee County Library this week, is part of $3.5 million allocation of federal funds administered through the Library of Michigan.

40 YEARS AGO

Bear Lake VFW to sponsor egg hunt

Bear Lake Post 5583 VFW will sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt in the village park on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Three age groups, 1-4, 5-8 and 9-12, will participate. Easter baskets filled with goodies will be given to the two younger age group winners and a real Easter Bunny will be given to the winner in the older group.

60 YEARS AGO

Will leave RR position

Donald Englund, assistant general freight agent of the Manistee and Northeastern Railway, has resigned his position from the company effective May 1 and will move to Saginaw, it was learned today. Englund is leaving the local company to become associated with the Sargent Construction Company of Saginaw.

Top Red Cross goals

Two more townships in Manistee County have topped their Red Cross goals, it was announced today. The latest to reach the top were Maple Grove and Marilla townships and the total fund for the entire city and county has now reached $7,934.70.
