Senior Center News

What a crazy week! I have been busy trying to organize purses and handbags for our “Old Bag” sale. Thank you to everyone who has dropped off gently-used handbags — I appreciate it very much.

Remember our “Old Bag” sale is July 5 at the Manistee Senior Center; all of the proceeds raised will benefit Manistee County Council on Aging programs.  Any gently-used purses, scarves and jewelry can be dropped off at the senior center.

Our Fun Bingo was Wednesday. Everyone is a winner, and it is always a good time. We also had a presentation from Ross Spencer from the Blacker Airport regarding airport services. Ross told us some very interesting history about the airport and how affordable it is to fly out of Blacker Airport. Thank you, Ross, for your time and all of the information.

Friday was another spectacular day at the senior center. We celebrated National Doughnut Day, and I can tell you we had the best, melt-in-your-mouth doughnuts. The ladies from Orchard Lane Country Store in Bear Lake were kind enough to get up very early and make us some great doughnuts. My taste buds thank you, but my hips do not. We had so many people stop by to have coffee and doughnuts and to celebrate this special day — it was so nice to see all of your smiling faces. We also had the world-famous produce bingo on Friday. Jerre always makes it a fun time. She always has the freshest fruits and vegetables and great surprises for everyone. Thank you, Jerre, for all you do for everyone.

We have some great ideas on the horizon and will keep everyone up to date with the latest news. I have been very blessed with people calling and offering their time and talents to share with our seniors here in Manistee. So, everyone, keep up the good work and remember to try something new!

FOOD BANK

The Senior Center Food Bank will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday. It is open to seniors age 60 older who are residents of Manistee County. No special income is required; the food bank is for anyone who feels they need extra help with groceries. Donations are appreciated so that we can continue this program.
