POLICE BLOTTER: Several cited for driving violations

MANISTEE — The Manistee Police Department responded to the following calls June 5 through Monday. All calls might not be reported.

June 5

  • Officers responded to a traffic accident at 11:38 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Memorial Drive.
  • At 2 p.m., an on-duty officer saw a driver fail to signal a turn and caught up to the vehicle at First Street near Grant Street. The officer asked if there were any drugs in the vehicle, and the driver said “yes.” The driver, a 23-year-old male, handed a pill bottle full of marijuana and a medical marijuana card to the officer. The evidence was forwarded to the Michigan State Police’s State, Sheriffs, Chiefs Enforcement Narcotics Team for further investigation.
  • Officers assisted with a felony warrant arrest at 4 p.m. on the 300 block of Fourth Street. A 23-year-old man had a warrant out for his arrest for possession of cocaine, heroin, or another narcotic under 25 grams and possession of marijuana. The man was located and arrested.

Thursday

  • Officers were dispatched at 1:47 a.m. to McManigal’s Pub, 522 Ramsdell St., for a complaint that three subjects were hanging outside of the bar and there were sounds of things breaking. Upon arriving, a Manistee Police Department officer identified one subject, who is known to be on probation, sitting alone and visibly intoxicated while drinking a beer. After contacting the subject’s parole officer, the 29-year-old was arrested and lodged at the Manistee County Jail for a probation violation.
  • At 4:30 p.m., an on-duty officer saw a vehicle fail to signal a turn and stopped the car at the intersection of First and Greenbush streets in Manistee. A 33-year-old male passenger in the car had a warrant for failing to appear in Manistee County’s 85th District Court for operating while under the influence of drugs. He was arrested and the officer gave the driver a verbal warning for the traffic infraction.

Friday

  • Officers were dispatched at 3:34 p.m. to the 200 block of Seventh Street in Manistee for a suspicious situation.
  • An officer made a traffic stop at 10:27 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Monroe Street. The 28-year-old driver was ticketed for not having a license plate displayed, driving without a license on his person and not having proof of insurance.
  • Officers were dispatched at 7:20 a.m. to the intersection of Maple and River streets to investigate a traffic accident. A garbage truck hit the gate on Maple Street bridge, causing minor damage.
  • An out of control 10-year-old male student was reported at 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Sixth and Oak streets. According to reports, the student tried punching an employee of the Manistee Intermediate School District and was sent home with family.
  • Officers were dispatched at 7:10 p.m. to the 1100 block of Cherry Street for a suspicious situation. After suicidal threats, a third party removed firearms from the premises and Manistee Police Department officers secured them at the department office.

Saturday

  • At 2:17 a.m., officers arrested a 26-year-old female from Bear Lake for operating while intoxicated at the intersection of Sibben and First streets in Manistee.
  • Officers made a traffic stop at 11:37 p.m. at the intersection of Tenth and Vine streets. According to reports, the 18-year-old male driver had consumed a minimal amount of alcohol and was cited for minor in possession and minor operating a vehicle under the influence.

Sunday

  • Officers were dispatched at 1:04 p.m. to a traffic accident at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Lakeshore Drive

Monday

  • A red Schwinn 10-speed bike, found one week prior at Lighthouse Park, was reported found at 8 a.m.
