Golf for Warmth set for Aug. 2

MANISTEE — For a few months each year, most people in Michigan aren’t worried about turning on the heat. But at FiveCAP Inc., ensuring funds are in place to provide heat assistance to families in need is a year-round goal.

So, in the midst of summer warmth, FiveCAP hosts the annual Golf for Warmth event, which will take place on Friday, Aug. 2 at Manistee National Golf & Resort. This event raises funds that help the agency provide a safety net to families who need help heating their homes but don’t qualify for state or federal assistance.

“Our golf outing gives us a chance to get out and have a great day with our supporters while keeping the need for heat assistance in people’s minds throughout the summer,” said Holly Haywood, FiveCAP community support director .

Registration for Golf for Warmth will begin at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9. The awards ceremony and a live auction will take place at 1:30 p.m.

“Again, our sponsors and donors have come through for us,” Haywood added. “We have great prizes and the auction tables will be filled with really nice items.”

The registration fee for the event is $300 for a four-person team or $75 per person, with discounts available for Manistee National members ($260 for a team, $65 for individuals). Registration includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, a sleeve of Titleist NXT golf balls, lunch, practice range balls and a free 18-hole round of golf valid on either of Manistee National’s courses.

The winning team will receive an overnight stay package at Little River Casino Resort. Participants will also have the chance to win a 2013 Dodge Dart in the hole-in-one contest sponsored by Watson’s Manistee Chrysler.

“Golf for Warmth is always a lot of fun,” Haywood said. “Manistee National provides a beautiful space for our fundraiser and we look forward to getting out there each year.”
