Veteran assistance van

A mobile van staffed by specialists in veterans benefits and counseling will be arriving in Manistee for a one day stay in a tour of the state to provide one-stop on the spot aid for former service men and women.


Car theft

The city police today were investigating the theft of a 1940 model car from the Kann and Company parking lot either last night or early today. There was no trace of the stolen vehicle by mid-morning.

Festival shows profit

At the meeting this morning of the Manistee Forest Festival board of directors at the Board of Commerce, it was revealed by Treasurer Phyllis Berglund that the association this year wound up with a profit of $985.86.


Slot machines retired

Slot machines were not in their usual prominence throughout Manistee County today and as a result of a warning issued by Sheriff Michael Martin Saturday, the machines of chance probably will stay in retirement for some time.

Many present at air show

Hundreds of persons were at the Manistee Blacker Airport yesterday afternoon to watch the air show put on by the Davis Flying Service. Corporal Colburn Munger and a state trooper were on hand to manage the traffic.
