Piano Concert at Music House at 7:30 p.m. Saturday

MANISTEE — Michael Coonrod, an internationally-known pianist and faculty member at the Interlochen Arts Academy, will be in concert Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Music House in Manistee. The program will consist of pieces from baroque to contemporary.

Beginning with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Chaconne in D minor, transcribed for the left hand by Johannes Brahms, the concert will continue with a Ballade and two Hungarian dances by Brahms, a Fantasy for four hands by Franz Schubert, and two pieces by Robert Schumann, transcribed for piano by Franz Liszt. Susan Day, also from Interlochen, will join with Coonrod for the Schubert piano duet.

Contemporary pieces will include Autumn Moon Over the Calm Lake Chen by Peixun, Etude, No. 1 by Bela Bartok, Embraceable You (from seven virtuoso etudes after Gershwin) by Earl, and Two Concert Etudes by Nicholai Kapustin.

Audiences have enjoyed the intimate setting of the 80-seat auditorium of the Music House, and performers have appreciated the fine acoustics of the small concert hall. The Music House is located at 302 Walnut St. next to the Danish Church museum one block from the highway.

The Coonrod concert is being given as a benefit for the Music House; tickets may be purchased at the door. Further information is available by calling (231) 723-2744.
