GRAND RAPIDS — Celebration Cinema South in Grand Rapids and The Salvation Army Kroc Center will host the theater premiere of the new holiday film, “Silver Bells,” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The feature-length movie was filmed in Manistee and Grand Rapids and was recently released by Pure Flix Entertainment. It seeks to highlight the true meaning of the holiday season through giving and volunteering.

The motion picture was filmed by Manistee’s own 10 West Studios and directed by Harold Cronk.

Silver Bells is 10 West’s eighth movie in the past two years, and Cronk says he has plans to complete five more in the next 12 months.Throughout his films, Cronk has focused on different features of the Manistee area, notably the downtown and winter atmosphere.

Some Manistee residents acted as extras in the film.

Bruce Boxleitner stars in the movie as a television sports reporter who gets in a scuffle with a referee at his son’s basketball game and is suspended from his job. In order to complete his community service sentence, he must man a red kettle and ring bells for The Salvation Army during the Christmas season.

Silver Bells, filmed earlier this year in Manistee and Grand Rapids, will premiere on Wednesday in Grand Rapids.

As he encounters holiday shoppers from behind the kettle, his life — and especially his relationship with his son — is changed by something as simple as ringing a bell.

Celebration Cinema, Kregel Parable Christian Stores and The Salvation Army Kroc Center have partnered to share the movie with the entire community and collect toys for The Salvation Army Angel Tree. Residents can bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Kroc Center or any local Kregel Parable Christian Stores to receive their ticket to the movie premiere.

The theater is located at 1506 Eastport Drive SE in Grand Rapids.
