Women Who Care in Manistee to benefit nonprofits

MANISTEE COUNTY – Imagine the power of 100 women who care, who gather together for one hour four times per year and contribute $100 each to support a deserving nonprofit organization in Manistee County.

That’s the concept two area women are sharing as they form a unique fundraising group, Women Who Care in Manistee.

“The process is simple,” said Judy Crockett, co-founder. “In one hour, with 100 women involved, we can raise $10,000 for a local, deserving agency in Manistee County. Imagine the impact when we do that four times a year!”

The first meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 at The Bungalow Inn on U.S. 31, south of Manistee.

Women are encouraged to come early to get settled and can stay afterward for continued networking and fellowship.

Attendees should be prepared to write a check for $100 to the selected agency.

Members will nominate an agency when they arrive at the meeting. Three agency names will be drawn at random. The members them will pitch the agencies. The group will vote. The agency that receives the most votes will receive the funds.

“It is a powerful concept,” said Jennie Marie Naffie, cofounder. “I have been part of Women Who Care in Muskegon for nearly three years – since its inception. The first time I was there I cried because all I could think of was my mom, Bette Naffie. She would have loved this concept – it is organized, simple and truly makes a difference.”

All women are invited to the first meeting and aren’t required to make a commitment to the group. Additional meetings will be held in April, July and October.

“I love Manistee and all the people there who care about the community,” Naffie said. “I am amazed by the positive changes, but know the nonprofits need help. This is an objective, fair and great way to make a difference.”
