Michigan Army National Guard promotes Big Rapids soldier

BIG RAPIDS – Benjamin R. Beaumont, of Big Rapids, was promoted to the rank of sergeant in the Michigan Army National Guard.

Beaumont is a Cavalry Scout Team Leader, with the Manistee-based Bravo Troop 1st Squadron 126th Cavalry (Black Knights). He has been a member of the Michigan National Guard for two years. Prior to his service with the guard, Beaumont served on active duty with the U.S. Army for three years.

Beaumont attended initial training in 2009 at Fort Jackson, S.C. Beaumont also attended numerous courses throughout his military career with the most recent being Cavalry Scout Qualification Course out of Boise, Idaho.

Beaumont is a veteran of Enduring Freedom. During his deployment he served as a maintenance section leader with the 54th Military Police Company.

During his military career, Beaumont has received numerous awards including The Army Commendation Medal, The Army Achievement Medal and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

In civilian life, Beaumont is working as a special education director and teacher at the CASMAN Academy located in Manistee.

Beaumont is married to Amber Polcyn, of Manistee, and the couple is expecting their first child in February. He is the son of Tom and Darbie Beaumont, of Big Rapids.
