Kiwanis Scholarships now available

MANISTEE — Manistee Kiwanis Scholarship applications are now available from school counseling offices at all Manistee County schools and are downloadable at www.manisteekiwanis.com.

Every year the Manistee Kiwanis Club awards college and vocational scholarships to graduating high school seniors and academic and arts scholarships to middle and high school students. Selection is based not only on school performance, but on participation in community and school service programs and career goals.

The Club has presented hundreds of awards to students from all county schools attending a broad range of public and private universities throughout the years. Camp scholarship have been provided in music, dance, art, theatre, creative writing, diving, baseball, wresting and much more.

“The camp scholarships have often proved life changing experiences,” said Lee Trucks, Kiwanis Scholarship chairman. “We’re proud that our local awardees have gone on to excel in the activities and professions throughout the United States. We offer these award to both encourage and enable the youth in our community to achieve their goals, whether they be becoming a teacher or CPA or learning a trade.

The funds for these scholarships come from Kiwanis programs like the Annual Golf Outing, this year on May 17 at the Manistee Golf and Country Club and the World Famous Pancake Breakfast, held in conjunction with the Manistee National Forest Festival, returning to the Manistee Armory this year.

Kiwanis is a worldwide organization whose goal is to “change the world, one child and one community at a time.” The club welcomes new members interested in giving back to the community that supports them and their families.
