Mini-Olympics

Manistee Junior High students got to enjoy a little snow fun Friday as the seventh and eighth graders participated in the third day of their Mini-Olympics called “Activities Day”. Events included volleyball, downhill skiing at Crystal Mountain, sledding in Filer City, and snow-sculpting.

Bradford is Player of the Week

This week’s Manistee News Advocate Player of the Week is 16 year old Junior, Becky Bradford of Onekama High School. Becky is the daughter of Arden and Lynn Bradford and she plays the position of hitter on Onekama’s volleyball team.

Bear Lake boosters to celebrate Homecoming

The Bear Lake Athletic Boosters met recently to discuss Friday’s alumni homecoming dance. The dance will be held at the L.O.O.F. hall on both floors. Members of the Athletic Boosters encourage people to get their tickets early and avoid the rush at the door.

Boiler cracks at court house

Radiators are stone cold in the court house today as workers from a local plumbing concern are busily engaged in patching up the boiler which last evening, for the second time within two weeks, cracked up. Several new cracks were opened in the heavy cast iron boiler. No reason, other than the old boiler has seen its best days, is given for this second accident.

Cause of blast unknown

No knowledge of the source of a rumbling explosion which shook Manistee on Monday night can be obtained from police or fire departments in the city, but the blast is believed to have occurred at the scene of oil drilling operations several miles south of the city.
