Fundraiser to benefit local Habitat for Humanity

MANISTEE — Diners at House of Flavors in Manistee will get to help a good cause next week.

Manistee County Habitat for Humanity is hosting a fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the restaurant. During this time, Habitat for Humanity board members will seat guests and clear tables, and the restaurant will donate 20 percent of the total sales to the nonprofit group. The funds will be used toward the construction of Manistee Habitat’s next home.

Manistee Habitat has completed 10 homes so far and is looking for potential “partner families” for its next build. According to its website, volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor — “sweat equity” — into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
