Spring break in full swing

MANISTEE — The Vogue Theatre is celebrating spring break by doing what it does best: showing movies.

Lots of them.

Through Thursday, themed days at the theater include Mega-Hit Monday, Teen Day Tuesday, Western Wednesday and Time Travel Thursday. Throughout the entire week, the theatre is showing 27 movies — from classic to contemporary — all at a discounted rate.

a1“It’s been great so far,” said Marty Yaple, Vogue Theatre assistant manager of technology. “We had good crowds all day Saturday (and saw) lots of new people. People who came in here for the first time and wanted to take it in by seeing a movie that they liked as a young person.

“I’m excited, just as a fan of movies in general,” Yaple continued. “There’s all kinds of movies that I’ve seen before that I’m excited to see on the big screen.”

The event is modeled after the State Theater’s spring break week in Traverse City. Theater manager Travis Alden picked the set of movies from suggestions from volunteers and patrons, Yaple said.

All schools in Manistee County and West Shore Community College are out for break this week. While some students may attempt to finally get outside after a grueling winter and others are on vacation, the Vogue offers another option for students and adults alike.

“It’s been really nice to see the students come in for all of the different movies,” said Kris Johnson, Manistee Area Public Schools teacher who is volunteering throughout the week. “Yesterday, there was two boys who went to all four movies.”

Yaple added that Divergent is still playing at 2, 5 and 8 p.m. all week in the Oleson Family Theatre.
