Man dies after passersby pull him from burning vehicle in Monroe Township

(MCT) — Two men who happened upon the scene of a car fire early Tuesday morning in Monroe Township pulled the driver from the 2001 Ford Escort.

Tyler Cook, 23, of White Lake was unresponsive when they arrived, and he died on the scene despite efforts to revive him by Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department and Monroe County Ambulance, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The two strangers who stopped to help, a 41-year-old man from Carleton and a 26-year-old man from Monroe, found the vehicle with fire in the passenger compartment parked along the east side of Telegraph Road south of Albain Road, according to Det. Jeff Pauli with the sheriff’s office.

Pauli said it appears Cook was temporarily living in southern Wayne County. His body wasn’t burned, but investigators also don’t suspect he died from smoke inhalation, Paulie said.
