Onekama park to host Arbor Day celebration

ONEKAMA — An Arbor Day celebration will be held at North Point Park in Onekama on Friday.

The event will begin at 10 a.m., and will include a speaker, refreshments, park tours and free tree saplings for attendees.

Katie Grzesiak, invasive species network coordinator for Grand Traverse Conservation District, will be the keynote speaker.

In past years, 700-900 saplings were planted at the park on Arbor Day, but this year no shovels will be required and no trees will be planted at the park.

Attendees will take home a sapling — high bush cranberry, ninebark and serviceberry will be available.

The public is invited to the free event hosted by the Onekama parks and recreation committee.
