BEAR LAKE — Grow Benzie is offering a tour of the Wee Bee Jammin’ store this weekend.

Owner and founder Simone Scarpace will cover several topics at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the store located at 8925 Norcronk Road, in Bear Lake.

Simone Scarpace’s business started as a passion. She and her husband would take their children to berry patches and orchards to pick local fresh fruit when they lived in the Detroit area. Her entire family found the activity enjoyable. She started sharing her jams with family and friends, and they said she should sell it.

After their children grew up, they chose to move up north and decided to start a business at the Starting Block Incubator Kitchen in Hart. After more than five years in business, Scarpace has her own retail space and production facility, and wholesale accounts in over 70 stores.

Setting up retail business and independent small-scale production facility is no small task. Scarpace will discuss the steps that are involved in making a dream become a reality, as well as the ups and downs of starting a business.
