Kids fish Wellston’s Crystal Lake

WELLSTON — Named after a long-time Wellston booster, the ninth annual Bobbie Brown Memorial Fishing Tournament gave more than 50 children a chance to fish Wellston’s Crystal Lake on Saturday.

The event, organized by the Wellston Boosters, featured a prize for each participant, raised from community donations. Children up to age 16 were eligible to participate.

Also present at the tournament was the U.S. Forest Service and Smoky Bear.

Elsewhere around Manistee County and state, Saturday and Sunday were Michigan’s free fishing weekend, providing an opportunity for residents and non-residents to use Michigan’s waterways for fishing without a license for two days.
